FROM GERMANY TO OTHER LANDS:

 

 

1870/71

France

  

The first Sisters went during the German-French war to Alsace-Lorraine, to carry out army medical service (with this the ground was laid for the later Province of St Blandine – Ban St. Martin/Metz, France).

1872

USA

 The first Sisters traveled to the United States, additional groups followed (with this the ground was laid for the later Province of St Clara – Wheaton, Illinois/USA).

 

1874/75

Netherlands

 Some Sisters went to the neighboring Holland, to beg abroad during the distress of the Kulturkampf (with this the ground was laid for the later Province of St Francis – Aerdenhout – the Netherlands).

1875

The Wreck of the

Deutschland

 At the beginning of December another group of 5 Sisters left the Motherhouse in Salzkotten to travel to the United States.  These Sisters found their death in the wreck of the ship, “The Deutschland”, off the coast of England.

 

1883-1988

Belgia

 During this time Sisters from Deutschland were in Raeren/District Eupen, Belgium, to serve the people in outpatient care, in the hospital and in a home for the elderly.

And time and again the Sisters were sent to France, the United States and the Netherlands.  Changes were only made in the years after 1920, as the Congregation made basic structure changes.

In this time the Sisters in Germany also became an independent Province, that is, under the patronage of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. However the Generalate remained also in Salzkotten until it was moved to Paderborn in 1949.

 

1933

Romania

 A large group of Sisters followed a call to Bukovina, Romania.  In 1940 the Sisters had to return to Germany because of the difficult situation of the war.

 

 

 1964-1969

Indonesia

 Two Sisters followed the call to the Mission in Indonesia, since in that time because of political reasons no more Sisters from the Netherlands were allowed to immigrate to Indonesia.

 

1967

Rom

 

The Generalate was transferred from Germany to Rome.

1973/74 – 1983

 Malaysia

Five Sisters followed the invitation to work together with the Hospital Brothers from Trier in Ipoh/Malaysia, in the Fatima Hospital.

 

1984

Malawi

 Two Sisters responded to a call to participate in the Africa Project of the Franciscans, and on the desire of Bishop Matthias Chimole, to take over the administration of the Diocesan Hospital in Madisi/Malawi.  Later followed additional Sisters.

Some Sisters followed the call to begin anew in Romania, this time in Banat.

 

1997-1999

 

Nigeria

 

 

One Sister of the German Province worked within the scope of a Congregation Project in Nigeria/Africa, together with Sisters from the United States and Indonesia.
